The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took home the top three awards of the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 13, 2014. The Best Female and Best Male Performance Awards were won by Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson respectively, while the movie itself won the award for Movie of the Year.
The Movie of the Year award was accepted by co-star Sam Claflin. A tribute for the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was made by Hutcherson. Hoffman played the character of Plutarch Heavensbee in the movie. Hutcherson said:
“I know that if Philip were here, he would really think this was really cool and to have him in our movies was one of the coolest things in the world, he’s one of the actors I’ve looked up to my entire life, and we think about him every day on set, so wherever he is, this definitely goes out to him as well.”
Other big winners for the night include Jared Leto who won the Best On-Screen Transformation. Jonah Hill took home the Best Comedic Performance award while Zac Efron won the Best Shirtless Performance.
